West African Cichlid maintenance program
There is no cost to join the program, your only cost will be in acquiring breeding stock and supplies you need to support your breeding effort. We do ask that you are committed to filing updates and progress for the particular species you are working with. To register in the program email me with this link and I will send the registration form.
There will be a program coordinator and genus coordinators. The program coordinator will maintain the web site, organize the genus coordinators and gather all info from the genus coordinators and post the info on the web site. The genus coordinator will organize the hobbyists working with the species in their group and collect the info from the hobbyist in their group.
Verification of species
1) Obtain the fish from an already verified source. If we have already verified
the stock once, when the stock is passed to another person the verification
passes with it.
2) Good quality photographs of males and females verified by the coordinators or
other knowledgeable people designated by the program coordinator.
3) The coordinators or other knowledgeable people designated by the program
coordinator can verify the stock by seeing the fish live in the owner's tanks.
4) If the coordinators and the other verifiers cannot agree as to what the fish
is, then specimens would need to be sent to a qualified taxonomist be
identified. The fish can be spawned and fry reared to young adult size, and then
sent for ID.
